Why You Should Choose This Lush Wine Over A Châteauneuf-du-Pape

If you're anything like us, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of your very favorite red wines to splurge upon. We've had a love affair with Châteauneuf since Day 1 of our wine adventures, but if we're going to be completely up front it's always been a "splurge" wine to enjoy on special occasions (you know, like dinner!). That's because it usually starts at $50/bottle and skyrockets from there.

While our main goal is finding you stunning wine you won't find anywhere else, it absolutely thrills us to find less expensive knockouts we can share with you. That's our way of saying thank you for your loyal readership. That's also why our emails have such an avid following. We don't sugar coat, embellish or ever sell you anything we wouldn't drink ourselves. We're plain talking, straight-up honest folks and you seem to get us.

So just wait until you see what we have up our sleeves today.

Many of you already know Gigondas is an appellation in the Southern Rhône, long regarded as the "poor man's" Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The only problem is the winemakers in Gigondas heard the rumors and started asking for much higher prices. So the bad news is that no Gigondas is going to be inexpensive these days but (here's the good news!) we found one at a reasonable price that drinks like it's two to three times its price. Score!!!

In our book that makes today's wine an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VALUE.

Famille Brechet produces Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas in a location in which vines have held sway for over six centuries. Wines from this appellation are generally known for their power rather than elegance, but today's wine is a mind-blowing exception.

Even the press are calling this wine "lush" and "very suave" in addition to "seamless" and "elegant." Mmmmm. That's our kind of talk.

Domaine Des Bosquets Gigondas 2012Domaine Des Bosquets Gigondas 2012 (Southern Rhône, France)

"A lush, alluring style, with plush fig paste, blackberry and boysenberry coulis flavors that glide along, studded with notes of dried star anise, Christmas pudding and raspberry ganache. The seamless, lengthy finish lets a black tea accent linger gently. Very suave. Drink now through 2024. 500 cases imported." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: Highly Recommended

"A beauty that shows the house style, the 2012 Gigondas has fabulously sweet black raspberry, licorice, underbrush and hints of wild herbs to go with a fleshy, seamless, elegant feel on the palate. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre and the balance Cinsault that spent 18 months in a combination of concrete tank and demi-muid (some of which are new), this medium to full-bodied, polished Gigondas has solid mid-palate depth, fine tannin and will drink nicely for upwards of a decade." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 90 points

"Dark berry, licorice and cracked pepper aromas show good clarity and depth. Sappy and broad in the mouth, offering pliant cassis and blackberry flavors and a hint of dark chocolate. Finishes sweet and long, with lingering spiciness and slow-building tannins." (Josh Raynolds, Vinous)

Anyone else out there a fan of blackberry and boysenberry coulis? How about raspberry ganache and dark chocolate? Woot! Woot!!

$34.99/bottle or $335.90/12 pack case ($27.99/bottle)

or just $27.99/bottle in a mixed case of wine

A wine of this superior quality for under $30/bottle is a bona fide, straight up, in-your-face KNOCKOUT.

This hedonistic wine is ready and willing to drink with herb roasted chicken, crispy duck confit, a two or three-inch cowboy-cut ribeye steak and/or braised rabbit with fennel. Our heads are swimming at the very thought of it. Or, you can do what we did and drink this bad boy on the deck while watching hummingbirds dart around the hanging flowers.

At less than $28/bottle this may be a bit of an indulgence, but one we don't personally want to be without.

So get this beauty while you can. We have no way of knowing how long it will last. It's a super tiny production wine and there isn't much of it. We have bottle stock in the store right now for those of you who want to grab a bottle or include it in a mixed case of wine. We're also taking orders for solid cases to be delivered next week. All orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis until it vanishes. Press reply to this email to reserve yours now.

Do yourself a favor.

You deserve this wine.
