New Release Watch: A Few New Gems
Since we returned from England a few weeks ago we've been working like crazy to bring in thrilling new wines (located all over the store) and plenty more are on the way. Today we thought we'd share just a few gems.
Auvigue St. Veran 2009 (Burgundy, France)
This is one of the best French Chardonnays we've sampled in ages (along with their Pouilly-Fuisse, which we also now carry, should you wish to bump things up to a higher level). Stunning, in fact. The domaine is tiny (only 12.35 acres) and run by brothers Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue.
Auvigue wines regularly appear in France’s top restaurants, and according to Robert Parker, "are among the top half-dozen wines produced in the Mâcon region." Wonderfully structured, showing great fruit with lovely citrus flavors, ideally balanced and full bodied.
Auvigue wines are always a remarkable value from a top producer in the region.

D'Arenberg Hermit Crab (Viognier/Marsanne) 2009 (Adelaide, Australia)
This is a truly fun summer wine with lots of great press. It's an excellent bargain too if you enjoy your wine with fuller flavors and body.
"Very pretty, with floral, passion fruit and pineapple aromas and flavors up front. Settles into an apricot silkiness on the finish." (Wine Spectator)
Wine Spectator: 90 points, Smart Buy
"Really showing its Viognier today, with scents of white peach, pear, honey and baking spices. Juicy pit fruit flavors become firmer in the middle, with tangy acidity providing lift. A touch dry on the finish but provides excellent palate coverage and lingers with intense minerality." (Stephen Tanzer's Internationall Wine Cellar)

Commanderie de Bargemone Rosé 2010 (Provence, France)
The new vintage is out from Commanderie and it's a good one. Rain or not, this wine is drinking great right now.
"The very pale pink hardly hints at the flavor this rosé holds. It's invigoratingly bright and fresh, with pink grapefruit flavor underlined by firm minerality and a little gamey red fruit. It's savory and mouthwatering, ready for roasted oysters and eaten beachside." (Wine & Spirits Magazine)

St. Eugénie Corbieres 2008 (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Spoiler alert. This wine might just become your favorite new house red wine. It's certainly one of ours!
The Domaine Saint-Eugénie Corbieres is a thrilling example of what the Languedoc is capable of when things are done right. The fruit is preserved beautifully. You will find it is pure, rich, and vibrant. The terroir is undeniably present in the form of mineral (a faint salinity in this wine gives it almost a sanguine quality) and depth. A blend of 40% Carignan, 30% Syrah, and 30% Grenache.
