My Little Paws Dug Up Something Special!!!

Hello Y'All,

It's Harley Benton the Southern boykin puppy bringing you the latest and greatest selection in value wines of distinction.

Today's wine is a bit over my head because I'm new to the wine business, but my parents helped me and explained the mystery of the amphora so I can share it with you.

Before we get into that, you should know it's no secret that incredible wine values are emerging from Spain faster than I can review them. I only have little paws so the typing is pretty slow.

Harley hard at work.

Today's 90 point blockbuster red wine is just
such a screaming value.

Even my parents liked it (and they are
VERY, VERY picky about wine).

The story of today's incredible value wine all started with an ancient wine vessel called the amphora.

Amphora 101: An amphora is a clay vessel used to ferment and store wine. The technique has been used for centuries -- much longer than any boykins have been around!!! Who could even begin to imagine a boykin-free planet?!?

At Celler del Roure, the winding halls of the cellar are lined with dozens of amphorae embedded into the earth with individual stone lids. Many were joined by stone channels carved into the rock, serving as the most rudimentary form of gravity flow. Some amphorae had cracked over the years but a surprising number remained in perfect condition.

Such a complete and well preserved artifact of viniculture would have remained an intellectual curiosity for most people, but Pablo Calatayud saw it as an opportunity to explore how wines were made centuries ago and how the would have tasted. Such an endeavor makes complete sense once you meet Pablo and understand his connection with the history of the region of Valencia around the village of Moixent.

As a proponent of the indigenous varieties of the area such as Mandó and Verdil how could he not also champion indigenous viniculture? As a little puppy I have to say I'm very impressed with his integrity. Plus I just learned a new grape variety: Mandó. This is so much fun! It's almost as good as being out on the bay at low tide retrieving my bumper with Mom and Dad (alright, I just said that to make them happy -- NOTHING is better than retrieving my bumper!!!).

Celler del Roure Vermell 2012

"A new red wine, the 2012 Vermell is a blend of 40% Monastrell, 40% Garnacha Tintorera and 20% Mandó from lyre-pruned vines on sandy soils at 550 meters altitude. It was fermented in stainless-steel vats with indigenous yeasts and matured for four months in buried 2,600-liter terra-cotta amphorae.

The nose is sharp, pure and elegant with great freshness, aromas of red berries, licorice, aromatic herbs and some of the telltale Monastrell notes of esparto grass. The palate is medium-bodied, precise and focused. It is really tasty with a lacy texture making it very easy to drink." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 90 points

This offer definitely deserves the famous boykin hop!!! Look at me go!

There are only 28 cases of this wine remaining in the state. My parents have a good chunk of that, but this offer is brought to you on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call the store or press reply to this email to reserve your wine now. You'll be so glad you did!
