A Legendary Cult Wine On Sale Now
There are a handful of world-class wineries in the Priorat which need no introduction. Clos Erasmus is one of those wineries. Wine critics across the globe consider it to be a legendary cult wine.
Clos Erasmus produces two red wines, both in miniscule production (and both difficult to obtain; only twenty 6-pack cases are allocated to the state each year). Fortunately, the winemaker's husband happens to be a close colleague of ours. You may have heard of him. He is one of the top importers in the United States who regularly garners ridiculously high scores from the wine press -- Eric Solomon of European Cellars.
We usually get together with the winemaker, Daphne Glorian, every spring to taste her new releases with a handful of retailers from across the state. Three years ago we attended a private seminar with Daphne, tasting through a vertical of Clos Erasmus. Tasting her wine across a host of vintages was an absolutely captivating and fascinating experience we will never forget.
As some of you may know, Clos Erasmus also produces a second wine called Laurel. This may be the world's single best value in Priorat for reasons you will see below. Before we get to that, we thought you might like to see the Wine Advocate's scores for Daphne's two wines across vintages. It's absolutely formidable.

And now another stunning offer and perhaps the single best VALUE in the Priorat:
Clos Erasmus Laurel 2009
“The 2009 Laurel, tasted from a barrel sample, is a more masculine, brooding effort with aromas of minerals and black fruits that play it close to the vest. On the palate it has superb volume, great focus, impeccable balance, and a lengthy finish. In short, all the right stuff is present requiring only a bit of patience by those fortunate enough to find a few bottles.
The Clos I Terrasses Laurel cuvee is essentially the second wine of Clos Erasmus. It is sourced from the estate's younger vines as well as those failing to make the grade for Erasmus based on taste. The result is one of the finest values in the DO of Priorat. The wine consists of 65% Garnacha, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah aged for 16 months in one-year-old barrels." (Wine Advocate)
Wine Advocate: 94-97 points
$59.99/bottle or $288/6 pack case ($48/bottle) or just $48/bottle in a mixed case of wine.
